Under 18s and guardians
Draft. This page is a placeholder until the final text is written and reviewed.
Members must be 18 or over to set up their own account. Younger filmmakers are very welcome, with a parent or guardian alongside them. Some of the best short films are made by teenagers with a phone and a free weekend, and we want them making films here.
How it will work
- A parent or guardian creates their own Flaggy Shore account first.
- They then add the young person as a linked member. Young members must be at least [13]; younger children can appear in members' films with their guardian's permission, but can't have an account.
- The guardian can see everything on the young member's account: their profile, messages, crew calls, films and posts.
- The guardian approves every arrangement before it goes ahead, including any crew call the young member answers and any film they're cast in.
- Young members can join rounds, hand in films, get them screened and take part in the forums like everyone else.
Keeping young members safe
- Messages stay visible. Adults can't have private one-to-one conversations with a young member. Every message is visible to their guardian.
- A responsible adult on every shoot. A young member only takes part in a shoot if their guardian, or an adult the guardian has named, is there the whole time.
- No intimacy or nudity, ever. Young members can't answer or be cast from a call that includes intimacy, nudity or sexual content, whatever the call says.
- Honest calls. Every crew and casting call states its risks up front: water, heights, night shoots, stunts. Guardians see this before they approve anything.
- Less on display. A young member's profile shows only their first name and county, never a photo unless their guardian allows it, and never to people who aren't logged in.
- Guardians decide on screenings. A film featuring a young member is only shown to members, and only shown publicly if their guardian agrees.
- Release forms. Anyone filming a young member needs their guardian's signed release, which the site provides.
- The law comes first. Members working with young people must follow the law on children in film and child safeguarding, including any licences or permits that apply.
If something worries you
Use the report button on any profile, message or post, or email [safety@flaggyshore.com]. Reports about young members are read first. If you think a child is in immediate danger, contact the Gardaí on 999 or 112 straight away.
Not switched on yet
Guardian accounts aren't available yet, because we want to get them right rather than rush them. If you're a parent or guardian and would like to be told when they are, email us at info@flaggyshore.com.
