Terms

These are the rules of the Flaggy Shore co-op, written as plainly as we can manage. By creating an account you agree to them, along with our Community Code and Privacy Policy, which are part of these terms.

The short version

  • You keep every right to what you make.
  • Handing a film in lets us screen it to members, and nothing more.
  • Crew agreements are between members. Say the terms up front, and keep your word.
  • Be decent to each other. We'll remove people who aren't.
  • Membership is free. Supporter membership is optional and you can cancel any time.

1. Who we are

Flaggy Shore is currently run by Kalopa Robotics Limited, Aughinish, County Clare, Ireland ("we", "us"). You can reach us at [hello@flaggyshore.com].

2. Who can join

  • You must be 18 or over, or have an account set up and managed by a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms on your behalf and is responsible for how the account is used.
  • One account per person. Accounts are personal and can't be shared, sold or transferred.
  • Use the name you work under. Stage names are fine; pretending to be someone else is not.
  • Keep your login details safe and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.

3. Your films and your rights

You keep everything. You own the films, scripts, stills, posts and other work you put on Flaggy Shore. We don't claim any ownership of it.

What you allow us to do. When you upload work or hand a film in to a round, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to:

  • host and store it so the site works
  • screen it to logged-in members online
  • send it to member hosts to screen at local screening nights for that round
  • show its title, a still and a short description on the site, so people can find it

If you mark a film as public, you also allow us to show it to people who aren't logged in.

We won't sell or license your work to anyone, use it in advertising outside Flaggy Shore, or use it to train AI models, without asking you first.

Taking it back. You can remove a film at any time. We'll stop showing it on the site right away. If a screening has already been scheduled and the playlist sent to hosts, it may still be shown at that one screening; we'll ask hosts to remove it where we can.

Your promises about your work. When you upload something, you confirm that:

  • you made it, or have the right to share it
  • everyone who appears in it agreed to take part, and, for anyone under 18, their parent or guardian agreed too
  • you have permission for any music, footage, artwork or locations you used, or they're yours to use
  • it doesn't break the law or anyone else's rights

If someone complains that your work infringes their rights, we may take it down while we look into it.

4. Rounds and screenings

  • Each round has a brief and a hand-in deadline. We may extend or change a round and will tell entrants if we do.
  • Every eligible film handed in on time is screened. A film may be left out if it breaks these terms or the Community Code, or if it is missing permissions it clearly needs.
  • Screenings are not competitions. Nothing is ranked, judged or awarded.
  • Feedback is opt-in and must follow the Community Code.

5. Crew calls and agreements between members

  • Every crew call must say whether it's swap, expenses or paid, and give an honest description of the work, dates, location and any risks (such as water, heights, stunts, night shoots, intimacy or nudity).
  • Agreements are between members. Flaggy Shore isn't a party to them, doesn't employ anyone who takes part, and doesn't guarantee that anyone will turn up, pay, or do what they promised.
  • Whoever runs a shoot is responsible for it: safety, permissions, insurance where needed, and keeping to what they promised in the call. If it's paid, the person paying is responsible for any tax, employment or insurance obligations.
  • Never ask anyone to put themselves at risk, and never pressure anyone to go beyond what the call described.
  • Under-18s may only take part on a shoot with their parent or guardian's written agreement and a responsible adult present.
  • The ledger and credits are records kept by members. Credits are confirmed by the film's maker. If you disagree with a credit or ledger entry, talk to the other member first, then contact us.

6. Local screening nights

Members who host a local night are responsible for their event: the venue, permissions, safety, and following local law. Only films from that round's playlist may be shown, and only at the event they were sent for. Hosts may not charge for entry beyond covering their costs unless every filmmaker in the programme agrees in writing.

7. Conduct

The Community Code applies everywhere on Flaggy Shore, in messages, at local nights, and on shoots arranged through the site. In particular, you must not:

  • harass, threaten, bully or discriminate against anyone
  • post anything sexual involving anyone under 18, or anything sexual without everyone's consent
  • use crew calls or messages as a pretext to meet people for anything other than filmmaking
  • post spam, scams or advertising unrelated to making films
  • share someone else's work, script or personal details without their permission
  • try to break, overload or get around the security of the site, or scrape other members' data

Report anything that worries you using the report button or at [safety@flaggyshore.com]. If you think someone is in danger, contact the Gardaí or emergency services first.

8. Moderation, suspension and removal

We may remove content, limit what an account can do, suspend it, or close it if we reasonably believe someone has broken these terms or the Community Code, or has put other members at risk. Where it's safe and practical, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond. You can appeal a decision by emailing [appeals@flaggyshore.com].

9. Supporter membership

  • Supporter membership is optional. It costs €50 a year, including VAT, and renews automatically unless you cancel.
  • We'll email you at least [14 days] before each renewal.
  • You can cancel at any time in Settings. Your supporter benefits continue until the end of the paid year.
  • Cooling-off period. If you're a consumer in the EU, you can cancel within 14 days of first paying and get a full refund.
  • Payments are handled by Mollie. Making and screening films never requires payment.
  • If we change the price, we'll tell you at least 30 days before your next renewal, and you can cancel before it applies.

10. Ending your membership

  • You can leave at any time by deleting your account in Settings. What happens to your data, credits and posts is explained in our Privacy Policy.
  • Accounts that aren't confirmed by email within 7 days are removed automatically.
  • We may close the site or a feature. If we close Flaggy Shore, we'll give members at least 60 days' notice and a way to download their films and data.

11. The site itself

The Flaggy Shore name, logo and site design belong to us. We try to keep the site running and your work safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. Keep your own copies of your films; don't treat Flaggy Shore as your only backup.

12. Our liability

  • We're responsible for losses caused by our breaking these terms or our negligence, where those losses were foreseeable.
  • We're not responsible for agreements, shoots or events between members, for other members' content, or for losses that weren't foreseeable.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't legally be limited, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

13. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll email you at least 30 days before the change takes effect. If you don't agree, you can delete your account before then. Each version is dated at the top of this page.

14. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of Ireland. If there's a dispute, please contact us first; most things can be sorted out with a conversation. Otherwise, the Irish courts have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the EU, you can also bring a claim in the courts where you live.
