The Flaggy Shore Manifesto

We make films. That's the whole point.

Not pitch decks. Not funding applications. Not waiting for a festival programmer to say yes. Films: shot, cut, finished and shown.

1. You get good at making films by making films.

Lots of them. Short ones, strange ones, ones that don't work. Every finished film teaches you more than a year of planning one. So we keep things small, keep the deadlines real, and keep going.

2. Finished beats perfect.

A five-minute film you completed is worth more than a feature you're still thinking about. We celebrate the hand-in, not the hype.

3. We crew for each other.

You do sound on her film because she did camera on yours. Your time is the currency here, and everyone can see what they've given and received. When money does change hands, we say so up front. Nobody is used, and nobody is surprised.

4. Every film gets screened.

No selection panels, no entry fees, no rejection letters. If you hand it in, it's shown to people who want to see it, and who'll talk to you about it afterwards.

5. Feedback is a gift, not a verdict.

Ask for it when you want it. Give it only after you've watched. Say one thing that worked and one thing to try next time.

6. Love is a good enough reason.

You don't need a union card, a showreel or a funding body's blessing to belong here. Day jobs welcome. Beginners welcome. People coming back after years away especially welcome. We measure each other by films made and help given, not by job titles.

7. There's always a couch.

Come in without a project. Make a coffee, sit down, join the conversation. But the couch sits right by the door to the edit suite, and sooner or later someone will ask if you're free on Saturday.

8. Stones make a shore.

The Flaggy Shore is thousands of separate stones that only become a coastline together. So is a film crew. So is this.

Now go and make something.
