Rounds
How rounds work
About twelve a year, some short, some long. Every round has a theme and a deadline. Everyone who hands in gets screened.
The rules
- Nothing longer than 12 minutes, titles and credits included. Shorter is welcome.
- The theme must be in there. How is up to you: literal, sideways, or the whole point.
- Hand in by the deadline. Deadlines are 16:00 UTC on the day, which is 5pm in Ireland in winter, 9am on the US west coast.
- Upload to YouTube or Vimeo and put the link on your film's page before the deadline. Hosting on the site comes later.
- Mark your film Finished on the site. That's the hand-in.
- Anything goes: solo, animated, documentary, phone footage, a crew of twelve. Whatever you have.
What happens
- The brief goes out. Say you're in by starting a film in the round, or adding one you've begun.
- Crew up. Post a crew call, or answer someone else's. Terms are always stated: swap, expenses or paid.
- Shoot, cut, finish. Ask for a hand in the Peanut Gallery.
- Hand in by 16:00 UTC on the deadline. Tick "feedback wanted" if you'd like notes from people who watched.
- Screening. Every film handed in on time is shown, online and at local nights. Nobody is judged, ranked or rejected.
- Three days later, the next round is announced.
Late?
A film finished after the deadline still belongs to its round and still gets a screening slot when the next one comes around. It just misses this one.
